Learn to Run Unknown Armies in 2020

If your New Year’s resolution is to run Unknown Armies for your friends, you’re in luck: New Gamemaster Month starts today. New Gamemaster Month is a chance for aspiring GMs to learn how to run a roleplaying game for their friends — and a way for experienced GMs to hone their skills. The four-week program is made up of eight in-depth articles that walk you through the process step by step, teaching basic gamemastery alongside game-specific mechanics. This year, Unknown Armies is one of four systems to choose from!

New Gamemaster month is free — all you need to participate is your game of choice and the twice-weekly posts releasing through the end of January. If Unknown Armies is the game you’ll be running, be sure you:

Whether this will be your first time behind the screen or your hundredth, we think you’ll learn something new this month.

Binge-Watch an Unknown Armies Actual Play

If you’ve been looking for a new show to watch, please allow us to recommend Nocturne from the fantastic team at Tablestory. Their Unknown Armies campaign is full of twists and turns and boasts incredible production values — and at 36 episodes long, there's plenty of subplots to draw you in. Find the full Youtube playlist here.

We didn't pay for or design the Nocturne campaign, but we want to help spread the word about great streams featuring Unknown Armies. If you know of any, give us a shout.

Come Visit Our New RPG Forum

In April, an unexpected web hosting upgrade took our old RPG forum offline for several months, but the forum is back now and better than ever. The new discussion software is more user-friendly, and community moderation means that discussions stay civil and spam-free. We’re excited about it and we hope you are too.

Right now, Ars Magica fans are the majority on the forum — but we’d love to build more robust discussion around Unknown Armies. If you’re interested, consider signing up for an account. If it doesn’t seem like a useful resource for you, or if there’s something else you’d like to see, please let us know in the comments.

As 2020 begins, our New Year’s resolution is to provide more community and support for our games. If you have on how we can do this, please reach out.

Happy New Year, and thanks for supporting our Kickstarter! Atlas Games loves you.

Magical Kitties Save the Eschaton!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 18, 2019 at 09:00:57 PM

Beloved cabal,

The sect members over at Atlas Games have been working on hard on a brand new RPG called Magical Kitties Save the Day.

Every magical kitty has a human. Every human has a Problem. In Magical Kitties Save the Day, you need to use your magical powers to solve problems and save the day.

But your kitties also live in Hometowns that are filled with Troubles like witches, aliens, and hyper-intelligent raccoons. Troubles make Problems worse, so the kitties need to go on adventures to take care of the Troubles before that can happen.

Magical Kitties Save the Day is a roleplaying game designed for all ages. Older players — whether they’re parents, babysitters, teachers, or older siblings — can be the Game Master for kids as young as six years old and everyone else who loves kitties.

The team over here at Atlas want this to be an ambassador for this crazy, amazing, wonderful hobby that we all share. So if you’ve been looking to initiate a new member into the cult, Magical Kitties is the perfect game to do it! When they open the box, sitting right on top will be a copy of Magical Kitties & The Big Adventure, a solo-play graphic novel adventure illustrated by Garth Graham. This action-packed comic book is also a full scenario! Within moments of opening the box, they’ll be able to create a magical kitty and go on an amazing adventure that will also teach them how to play the game!

We hope you’ll pop over and take a peek at the occult secrets enshrined in our project page.Or, failing that, we’ve got our fingers crossed that in the time you’ve taken to read this update that our shamanic ritual has memetically infested your cat and they will “accidentally” click the link by jumping onto your keyboard.

-Justin Alexander, RPG Producer

P.S. This update is a promotion for a game we think you’ll be interested  in. If you’re not, and you’d rather not get these kinds of updates in  the future, here’s how to unsubscribe from further updates. The Unknown Armies campaign is totally fulfilled, so you won’t miss out on crowdfunding updates going forward.

Greg Stolze's IN THE DARK
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jun 17, 2019 at 09:57:54 PM

Greg Stolze has left a message for us in the Elm Street dead drop. He's calling on any members of our cabal who enjoy horror fiction -- particularly his horror fiction! -- to immediately place this Kickstarter under surveillance:

IN THE DARK, a collection of new short horror stories.

We sent an initial team to do a quick sweep, and this is what they report:

- The Last C+ Student is a post-apocalyptic story in which a global pandemic causes its sufferers to lose about one IQ point per day.

- At $1,500, the Kickstarter will unleash Forgeries and Simulacrum, a horror-suspense story set at the intersection of policing, crime, and the occult.

- A Tale Told By An Idiot will see Stolze sneak ideas into your brain through the caretaker's entrance. Please do not panic if you are so afflicted, and report any resulting enlightenment to your handlers.

Our current status assessment suggests that we need to dispatch at least 8 members of the cabal ASAP to unlock a special audio book stretch goal read by Stolze himself.

Alternative IN THE DARK surveillance targets -- codenamed "rewards" -- include exclusive linocuts, patches, and a copy of the arcane tome known only as Mask of the Other.

Atlas Games' Latest: Gloom of Thrones
about 5 years ago – Thu, Apr 18, 2019 at 09:48:50 PM

Glorious cabal,

We at Atlas Games wished to alert you, our beloved supporters, to our most recent Kickstarter campaign. From the frozen lands of the Snarks to the intrigue-plagued domain of the Bannisters, one truth echoes: Gloom is coming…

That's right, we're crowdfunding a parody mash-up game of the bestselling Gloom (by RPG author Keith Baker) and Game of Thrones. We'd love for you to stop in and check it out here.

The object of the game is to make your characters as miserable as possible before finally delivering them to the sweet respite of death. Like Unknown Armies, Gloom of Thrones is about broken people trying to get what they want in a broken world. However, in Gloom of Thrones, you get to be the cause of the misery, instead of trying to mitigate it. The campaign is fully funded with 11 days to go, and we’ve already unlocked additional stretch goal Character cards. There’s more transparent misery to be had, though, between now and the end of the campaign on April 29th.

If you have a moment, take a look or pass it along to a fan of storytelling games, the source material, or Gloom itself.

Cheers!

Team Atlas
